Barely a full week after Biosonix announced the release of the new RF-300 series; the Biosonix name has surfaced again. Only this time, it was from the mouth of the newly crowned Bassmaster Classic champion Skeet Reese. While on-stage with trophy in-hand, Reese gave the account of the lures he used and his strategy of picking the right area to fish. It seemed he was giving a routine description of a fishing pattern that many could relate to when unexpectedly Reese made a comment that many in the crowd were caught off guard by: “you better believe my Biosonix unit made all the difference in catching those fish”. While many spectators were left wondering “What is Biosonix?” most had heard about it, but didn’t know how it worked or understand the impact it had on professional fishing. In 2005 Biosonix first surfaced in headlines. Following a winless drought from 2002 to 2004, Kevin VanDam stormed back on the scene in ‘05 winning 3 tournaments in a row and gave BSX much credit for playing a role in those wins. VanDam has since used BSX while claiming 7 Pro-Tour victories. After taking second to KVD in the ’05 Classic, Aaron Martens had heard too much about BSX to not try it himself. Martens used BSX for the first time in the ’05 WON U.S. Open and ran away with 1st place. Fishing in the same area during that event was Ish Monroe who noted, “I was sitting across the cove from Aaron and could hear the BSX unit on his boat, and all I could do was sit there and watch him haul in the fish”. Not long afterward Ish and his room-mate Mike Iaconelli had the sound technology on-board their boats. In ’06 the two roomies both won Elite Series events and Ike took Angler of the Year. During the ’06 and ’07 seasons BSX found its way on to many Pro-anglers boats, but they weren’t necessarily talking about it. Then at the end of 2007, Skeet Reese came forward and announced he had used BSX throughout his entire ’07 Angler of the Year season. In ’08, VanDam gave BSX credit for two Elite series wins, and went on to win AOY, making 3 consecutive Angler of the Year awards going to anglers using BSX(Ike, Skeet, and KVD). The kicker of ‘08 being Paul Elias broke the 4 Day B.A.S.S total weight record while using BSX as well. With all of these accolades to the product, why doesn’t everyone know about Biosonix by now? Since 2007, when Biosonix began shifting towards re-engineering, they basically went on a 2 year marketing hiatus. While pro-anglers were continuing to rack up titles using Biosonix there was little effort put towards informing the public with all focus being on R&D. The product that was available was having technical problems and Biosonix made the decision to not flood the market with those units. The new unit has arrived, in the form of the RF-300 series named for Randy Flint, a founding member and former design-mastermind of Biosonix who passed away in 2006. Without Flint’s contributions we wouldn’t be talking about Biosonix today. Looking forward, BSX Sound Technology is here to stay, and the question is what’s next? That would be custom sound patterns available on SD cards. Similar to Hot Maps for GPS units these custom cards designed by BSX pro-staff members will allow plug-n-play for different fishing patterns such as power vs. finesse.
